Karen Sheila Gillan commonly known as Karen Sheila is a Scottish actress and filmmaker. She was born on 28 November 1987 in Inverness, Scotland. She is best known for her role as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and in Avengers: Infinity War. She also played Amy Pond, a primary companion to the Eleventh Doctor, in the BBC One series Doctor Who (2010–2013).
She decided to become an actress when she was 16 years old and studied under theatre director Scott Johnston at the Performing Arts Studio Scotland. She later attended the prestigious Italia Conti Academy in London. Gillan appeared in John Osborne’s play Inadmissible Evidence (2011) and made her Broadway debut in the play Time to Act (2013). She wrote, directed, and starred in the drama film The Party’s Just Beginning (2018).
