Some people are quite happy with the way their body ages and don’t feel the need to slow the process down. However, if you are honest, does that sound like you? Or would you rather do what you can to stay looking youthful for as long as possible? If you would, there is nothing to be ashamed of; aging is not something that many people look forward to.
The good news is that there are many ways to slow this process down, even if it can’t be stopped entirely. If you would like to try some ideas, keep reading to find out what they are and put them into practice.
De-Stress
Stress is bad for the body and the mind. When you’re stressed, you’ll produce a lot more of the cortisol hormone, which is not ideal, especially when you realize it’s known as the stress hormone. A little of this hormone is a positive thing, as feeling some stress can help us stay alert and safe, and it’s handy for meeting deadlines. However, too much stress – and too much cortisol – is bad for the heart, blood pressure, and mental health. It can also age us prematurely.
Cortisol reduces the number of essential vitamins in the body, including B5, B6, and C. These vitamins are needed for youthful-looking, healthy skin, and having less of them means you’ll look older. De-stressing as much as possible is therefore crucial. If you find you are lacking in these vitamins, you can add them to your diet using a vitamin b6 supplement, for example, but you must also try to de-stress as it will be better for your overall health.
Give Up Sugar
Having too much sugar in your diet is never a good thing, as it will contribute to weight gain and tooth decay and can affect your general fitness levels. What you might not realize is that sugar is bad for the skin and can make you look older than you really are because it can damage elastin and collagen (proteins that help the skin look healthy and youthful). Give up as much sugar as you can, and you will stay looking younger. Be careful with sugar substitutes, however, as some sweeteners have health issues attached to them as well.
Try Gluten-Free
Gluten can affect the skin in a similar way to sugar. Gluten makes it hard to absorb some chemicals into the body, and that includes minerals that keep our skin looking healthy and young. Not only that, but the majority of gluten in our diet will come from bread, and bread can contain a lot of sugar, which we already know is bad. Opt for gluten-free food, and your skin will be able to take in the minerals it needs much more easily, helping you to stay looking younger.
Drink More Water
If you don’t drink enough water, your skin will dry out and look unhealthy, and it will age faster as wrinkles and lines will appear. If you can drink about two liters of water each day, this is less likely to happen. This might sound like a lot of water, but if you have a reusable water bottle with you all the time and sip from it constantly, you’ll easily get through two liters. Dehydration has a negative effect on your brain and mood as well, so if you want to feel happier and be more productive, as well as stay looking younger, you should drink more.
